"How many of you had a good 2012?" asked Kevin Kennedy, co-founder and CEO of Webgrrls International, "and, how many of you want an even better 2013?!" Over 120 hands went up and the room cheered, kicking off the annual NYC Webgrrls holiday party.

Kevin gave a toast, "To your prosperity and success in 2013, to meeting interesting people and making important connections!" and with those energizing words, he then turned the night over to Nelly Yusupova, founder of DigitalWoman.com, the NYC Webgrrls Chapter Leader and CTO of Webgrrls International.

"This event was a "10". I expected women who could help me with programming instead I found a very interesting range of men and women of all ages doing interesting things and willing to share and network."

"We sure do have a lot to celebrate this year!" started Nelly. She went on the say that Webgrrls have learned a lot from each other this year, supporting and inspiring each other. "I'm happy that we are all here to celebrate our successes we've achieved this year!"

"This was the first Wegrrls event I've attended and I very much liked the sense of community and how welcoming members were."

General Manager/Senior SEO Strategist, DragonSearch

WIX's Ariele Krantzow took the mic to welcome Webgrrls to WIX Lounge and to explain a little bit about the venue. WIX Lounge is a free workspace, sponsored by WIX.com. Ariele invited everyone to come in any weekday 9-5, grab a cup of coffee, and connect to their wifi. Thank you to Ariele and everyone at WIX Lounge for offering their great space for the Webgrrls party!

Nelly then brought over Filomena Mallozzi, busy at work preparing for our feast, to tell us about the wonderful food we had in store. Filomena runs Sorrento Cuisine, an Italian catering company using only the finest and freshest ingredients, serving the Tri-State Region for over 18 years. Webgrrls enjoyed yummy and satisfying baked ziti, pasta with zucchini, Chicken Piccata, meatballs, sautéed mixed vegetables, and garden salad.

"It was my very first webgrrls event and I was so happy to be a part of it .I made some great contacts, enjoyed who I met and the food was yummy. I look forward to the next event... Great job..Nelly you ROCK!!!"

To help with the raffles, I was introduced, Amelie Walker, your NYC Webgrrls Membership Coordinator. I've been happy to serve on the Webgrrls Steering Committee for the past several years. It is a great opportunity to be a part of the community and meet new members, while helping NYC Webgrrls. (Let me know if you have questions about membership!)

Our first lucky winners were Hilary Adler, Dawn Young, and Irene Liberman and their prizes were a Holiday flash drive and two Gaming Systems.

Next up, Valentina Guazzoni of Josh Bach drew Karen McKenna's name as the winners of a Josh Bach tie and cuff links set, just a sample of the unique and beautifully custom-designed gifts available for "all of the men in your life". Congrats!

Before getting back to networking—and the food!—Nelly offered her special challenge, "to make 10 new connections tonight", which made for easy networking.

"The event planners and the attendees were diverse, friendly and approachable. There was an atmosphere of community, even among strangers. It was wonderful to experience."

More raffles took place throughout the night, from Digital Ocean, Kurrenci, and Wacom
  • Etel Sverdlov of Digital Ocean, a cloud hosting company with simple, fast, scalable virtual servers, gave away two $500 hosting credits to Maria Graell and Maxine Keyson.

  • Kurrenci's Moshe Poltorak and his team had a gift set and t-shirts won by Yvonne King, Alice Ng, and Jenna Lauren Freed. Kurrenci is "new money for the internet", learn more at kurrenci.com

  • Our sponsor Wacom makes interactive pen displays and digital drawing tablets. Daniel Epstein and Stephanie Cockerl each won a Bamboo Create Tablet.

Webgrrls also gave away one free admission to TechSpeak for Entrepreneurs. Alicia Porrata was the lucky winner as she will get to attend TechSpeak in 2013. See techspeakforentrepreneurs.com to learn more about this 3-day intensive bootcamp of hands-on, how-to workshops designed and taught by Nelly Yusupova of Webgrrls!

By the end of the night, most everyone proved to be up to Nelly's challenge, meeting 10 or more people. "You're my #11!" I heard one happy networker say on making a new connection toward the end of the night. We hope that was the norm for the evening!

"Webgrrls hosts some of the best events to meet people who care about digital marketing and social media work. I can't wait for the next event."

We want to thank photographer Steve Cirvello for providing some of the photographs of the night.
