L.I. Webgrrls Bridge Career Gaps With a Plan B
02/27/2008
by Karen Gordon

We had a special presentation, some special guests, and a very lively and spirited discussion last week at the February 27th LI Webgrrls networking meeting. It was great to see the regulars and great to meet the newcomers who joined us for the first time.

After introductions all around, Larry Goldinger, a former IT Database Manager and currently a Certified Assistive Technologist, spoke about
management, management styles and having a plan B ready for the unforeseen…”whether it be a major down-sizing, outsourcing, preparing for a second career, one should plan ahead and should plan for multiple contingencies.”

Our special guests for the evening were Nelly Yusupova, the NYC Chapter Leader and CTO of Webgrrls International and Kevin Kennedy, CEO of Webgrrls International who offered their thoughts on functional leadership and management, the importance of networking and leveraging the Webgrrls forum.

Everyone got into the discussion and expressed their own views and participated at every twist and turn in the conversation. It was informational, educational, inspiration and a lot of fun.

Some of the topics covered were:
-       Leadership styles
-       People who are a “force of nature”.
-       Not fearing what you don’t know.
-       Take the lead when your manager fails

So many conversations, so little time. We had snacks and beverages and we talked well past the allotted time.

Our March meeting will be an evening of social networking, Thursday, March 27, 2008 at the chic "hot spot" Four Food Studio and Cocktail Salon, in Melville, Long Island, New York.  Complimentary Open Bar and passed hors d'oeuvres from 6-7:00 PM. We look forward to seeing all of you there. Men & Women, Friends & Associates Welcome!
