LI Webgrrls Monthly Networking Meeting
Event date: March 22 2011
Posted by: Ellen DePasquale

The March LI Webgrrls meeting was another wonderful event with terrific women all ready to share their experiences and advice. The discussion topic of the night was "What is Social CRM" and the input was very insightful.

Webgrrls International and I personally want to extend a message of gratitude to ExecuTrain of Long Island, specifically to Akesh, Nicole, and Cristy, for being wonderful and gracious hosts to the LI Chapter for the past year. It is with sadness that I had to announce that March was the final meeting at ExecuTrain as some of their internal changes have made the facility unavailable to us in the future. It was a great year and all of us at Webgrrls hope for the continued growth and success of ExecuTrain of Long Island.

I had the pleasure of introducing Cristy Barranco, (stepping in for Nicole Pagoulatos, Director of Operations at ExecuTrain of Long Island), as our sponsor for the evening. After a few words about ExecuTrain of Long Island and the classes they offer, Cristy announced that she will be raffling a free class at the end of the meeting.

  1. Our next meeting is April 26th and is the 1st anniversary of the re-launch of the LI Chapter. We are currently looking for a location and for sponsors. The April meeting will be free for everyone as we are going to celebrate while we network!
  2. A reminder that Webgrrls International membership is as low as $55/year. It will pay for itself in just 6 meetings!
  3. For everyone using Twitter please follow us at @LIWebgrrls.
  4. There will be no discussion topic in April, but we will follow our regular agenda including the Needs and Offers.
  5. Our first workshop is scheduled for March 30th. It is a two-part workshop, so you can attend either or both. The topic is WordPress. The morning session will cover the basics of setting up a website and the afternoon session will review more advanced functionality.
  6. Raffles - a free class courtesy of ExecuTrain of Long Island and my book, "It's About Time: Time Management Tips From The Software Revitalist".

Introductions are truly the "Heart and Soul" of every Webgrrls meeting. As we traveled around the room each person shared who they were, what they did, along with the Webgrrls famous "what they NEED, and what they OFFER." This allowed everyone to gain more insight, however, it is not as easy as it sounds. We break the standard networking mold and encourage creativity.

Since our groups consisted exclusively of member this month, we were all able to share information that was more in-depth instead of having to start with the standard "elevator pitch." It is always wonderful to listen to everyone talk about their businesses, issues, challenges, accomplishments, and everything else they want to include in their "introduction." It lead to some great exchanges of information and ideas and continued development of relationships that have been building for a year!

"What I like best is the camaraderie of the attendees and the opportunity to showcase each member's business skills."

Keeping up with the constant changes in business and technology, we tackled the topic of Social CRM. We talked about how social media continues to be a forum for conversation and commentary about businesses and how they are treating their customers. Now, businesses are starting to take social media more seriously, to the point that they are changing the way they do business. Social CRM simply means the ability for a business to take advantage of the information in social  media to engage with their customers in the way in which the customer dictates. One member astutely commented, "It is nothing new, they just gave it a name." Agreed!

As always, we wrapped up the meeting with our raffles. The night's winners were Sheila Zieger for the free class, and Ela Schwartz for my book. Congratulations to both of them!

Thank you to all who attended for making this another wonderful meeting. LI Webgrrls continues to grow and we want to see more guests and new members join in 2011!

If you couldn't make it on March 22nd you missed a great meeting, along with the opportunity to network with smart women, and I am sorry that you missed it. If you have been thinking about coming to a meeting don't wait any longer!

Lastly, watch for announcements regarding our April meeting where we will celebrate the 1 year anniversary of the re-launch of LI Webgrrls!

Be a part of something big! Help drive the direction of LI Webgrrls.

Looking forward to seeing you at the April meeting!
