LI Webgrrls Networking Meeting - August
Event date: August 24 2010
Posted by: Ellen DePasquale

The last LI Webgrrls of the summer proved to be one of the best. A combination of social gathering and business discussion made for interesting comments and a host of ideas for our upcoming workshops and seminars. I am really looking forward to continuing to grow the chapter.

Early attendee got sample the refreshments that were home-made by some of the members and guests, and one member brought home-grown plants she was willing to distribute to everyone interested in bringing one home. Diverse conversations developed as there was a sense of comradery. This atmosphere continued through the whole meeting to the casual networking that ends the evening!

"I look forward to these meeting every month. It's like g etting a shot of adrenaline. Great networking with so many women from diverse fields. We have so much to share with each other. You get to see things from so many different perspectives. It's just a wonderful experience. I gain so much at each meeting....always hungry for more."
Leslie Maura - LeMaur Jewelry, Inc.

It was with great pleasure that I had the opportunity to introduce and thank Jaclyn Ciamillo, Director of Operations at ExecuTrain of Long Island, our sponsor for the evening and home of LI Webgrrls. After a few words about ExecuTrain of Long Island and the classes they offer, Jaclyn reminded us that ExecuTrain is still offering two free classes to anyone who has been laid-off in the past year.

1. Our next meeting is September 28th at ExecuTrain of Long island. The meeting continues to be free for members, and will be $10 for non-members.

2. A reminder that Webgrrls International membership is as low as $55/year. It will pay for itself in just 6 meetings!

3. For everyone using Twitter please follow us at @LIWebgrrls.

4. Several members and guests have become trainers at ExecuTrain of Long Island.

5. Raffles - courtesy of ExecuTrain of Long Island we will be raffling a free class. We will also raffle a copy of my book, "It's About Time: Time Management Tips From The Software Revitalist".

This month we had an open discussion on potential topics for our upcoming workshops and seminars. The conversation was great as everyone was willing to suggest topics and comment on them. There was also a short back-and-forth on several of the topics and some wonderful advice being shared. Not only did we wind up with a list of interesting topics, we also have several women in attendance who would be fabulous presenters.

Everyone can look forward to our announcements toward the middle of October with the dates and locations - and here is a sneak peak to the list of topics that we will be looking to develop:

1. Time Management - specifically how to prioritize in order to efficiently and effectively accomplish all the tasks we are faced with in business.

2. How to create a simple website using WordPress.

3. Internet Marketing - a possible series devoted to Social Media, SEO, Blogging, Email Marketing, and Website Management.

4. How to get paid and set appropriate rates - geared toward self-employed and freelancers.

"What I like best is the exchange of ideas/knowledge in various fields.

The “Heart and Soul” of every meeting is the full introductions. As we traveled around the room each person shared who they were, what they did, along with the Webgrrls famous what they NEED, and what they OFFER. This allows everyone to gain more insight, and the most interesting thing is that it is not as easy as it sounds. We break the standard networking mold and encourage creativity. Besides all their businesses, the women offered to proofread short documents or marketing materials, musical instrument repair, and the willingness to meet for coffee to share their extended network. It is great to listen to variety of OFFERS and the extent that everyone is willing to try to help each other. LI Webgrrls networking meetings continue to facilitate relationships that build quickly and easily!

Everyone was eager to win the ExecuTrain free class raffle and a copy of my book It's About Time: Time Management Tips from The Software Revitalist. Additionally, a first-time guest, Eileen Lichtenstein, offered to raffle one of her Balance & Power workbooks. The night’s winners were Barbara Simons for the free class, Nancy Borg for the book, and Laura Joseph for the workbook. Congratulations to both of them!

We moved to the casual networking as women continued to talk about their NEEDS and OFFERS as well as the possible topics covered earlier. It is amazing how fast two hours can go when everyone is so involved!

Thank you to all who attended for making this another wonderful meeting. LI Webgrrls continues to grow and we had two new members join after this meeting!

If you couldn’t make it on August 24th you missed networking with some great women and I am sorry that you missed it. If you have been thinking about coming to a meeting don't wait any longer!

Be a part of something big! Help drive the direction of LI Webgrrls.
