Webgrrls gathered early in excited anticipation of the launch of the Long Island Webgrrls chapter and networking and connecting and sharing and learning were the theme of the re-launch networking meeting. Diverse interests and diverse experience drove the lively and spirited conversation where project managers, marketing professionals, sales people, programmers, web developers, career women, entrepreneurs, consultants and independent contractors, exchanged ideas, insights, suggestions and business cards…business was bustling and connections were being made.
WE’RE READY FOR LAUNCH
Special guest, Kevin Kennedy, CEO of Webgrrls International “kicked off” the activities with a brief history of Webgrrls and the formal introduction of, me, Ellen DePasquale, as the new Long Island chapter leader.
I was very excited to reinvigorate the LI Webgrrls chapter activities, create the context of the chapter and set the agenda, share my vision for the chapter, and meet and greet everyone. We anticipate many interesting workshops, seminars ranging in topics from tech to social media to building and growing our businesses…and of course networking, networking, networking!
“I love the direction that the chapter is taking and I'm looking forward to connecting with many more interesting women. I have been a member for a couple of years and I got more out of this one meeting then all of the others.”
Ria Muriello - Project Manager
OUR SPONSOR AND TWO FREE CLASSES
It was with great pleasure that I had the opportunity to introduce and thank Nicole Pagoulatos, Director of Operations at ExecuTrain of Long Island, our sponsor for the evening and the “new home” of LI Webgrrls. After a few words about ExecuTrain of Long Island and the classes they offer, Nicole made an announcement that ExecuTrain is offering two free classes to anyone who has been laid-off in the past year and the “raffle of the night”, a free class, will go to one lucky attendee.
INTRODUCTIONS ALL AROUND
We got right to the “Heart and Soul” of the meeting…the introduction. We went around the room and each person took the opportunity to tell us “who they were, what they did, what they need, and what they offer”. We were all taking notes as we identified whom in the room we needed to connect with and when all was said and done, we broke into an informal networking session, had great conversations, exchanged business cards and enjoyed some refreshments.
“All networking is good but this meeting showed me the value and direction that it can take.”
Gayle Naftaly - Marketing and Public Relations Consulting
AND THE WINNER IS:
The excitement was palpable as our second special guest, Nelly Yusupova, CTO of Webgrrls International and Chapter Leader of NYC Webgrrls, reached into the raffle bowl to pull out the night’s winner…and Laura Joseph was the lucky winner of the ExecuTrain class raffle drawing. Congratulations Laura!
Networking and conversation lasted well into the evening and the feedback has been great:
“The event was business like without being overly corporate. I felt the women attending spoke openly and honestly about their work and what they wanted and needed…”
Ela Schwartz - Writer/Editor
