Chicago Webgrrls Networking Meeting
Event date: July 22 2009

Ready, Set, Launch, Wow!  - If last Wednesday evening was any indication of the enthusiasm for networking and connecting, we are in for some great meetings with the Chicago Webgrrls. The space was odd but workable, the refreshments were tasty and healthy, and the energy amongst the group was amazing. The Chicago Webgrrls re-launch was fantastic!

“Who knew there were so many savvy women that would come together under one roof…what an amazing organization. I loved being a part of the launch and meeting so many interesting women tonight. It is very exciting”
Sarah Peterson
Web designer

Over sixty women were in attendance at the Chicago Webgrrls re-launch Networking event and everyone was ready to share their ideas, discuss great opportunities, find job leads and make that next great contact.

Our sponsor, e.l.f. Cosmetics provided each of the attendees with a great travel compact make-up kit (Shimmering Palette) at check-in and The Creative Group, who hosted our evening and provided the snacks and refreshments.

Nelly Yusupova, Webgrrls International CTO and NYC Webgrrls chapter leader, was the special guest emcee for the evening and got the meeting into “full swing” by introducing Elizabeth Patano Jaworek from The Creative Group who took a few minutes to tell us all about TCG.

Next up was Kelly Ragle, who has been instrumental in bringing Webgrrls back to Chicago and creating the renewed buzz as the chapter leader. Kelly announced that, as she has, "just successfully completed my contract and as I prepare for my next career move, I am stepping into the support role of membership coordinator on the Steering Committee  and stepping aside to allow the opportunity to go to a new chapter leader"…Webgrrls International has identified a possible candidate for the new chapter leader role and could make some exciting announcements very soon.

Nelly focused the group with her "three minute networking exercise" to ensure that we could get through everyone in the room and over the next hour and one half, we realized just how much talent was in the room.

"It was so empowering to connect with so many talented women…I walked out of tonight’s meeting with a good stack of business cards and I look forward to connecting again with everyone of them. Thank you Webgrrls!"

Consultant and Website Developer

We had entrepreneurs, executives, freelancers and career women, graphic designers, web developers, writers, financial experts, recruiters, and several marketing and PR reps. And there was a nice balance of people looking for clients, companies looking to hire, recruiter looking for top talent, and life coaches ready to help people identify the next great step in their lives. We even had a NYC Webgrrl attending to meet some Chicago colleagues.

As the formal introduction finished the excitement grew as the room ignited into the informal networking phase. The room buzzed as people connected with each other and people were exchanging business cards until the very end of the night.

Sonja Thompson, senior editor of TechRepublic, was in the room filming and posted a great short video that encapsulated the whole of last week’s event:

It was great to see some familiar faces and to see so many new ones. This was a super launch meeting and we have created some great momentum for the second half of 2009 and we look forward to seeing you at the next Chicago Webgrrls meeting.
