What happens when you combine great wine with great people and a great space? You make great connections...the mood was fun and festive and the wine was pouring fast...it was a perfect spring evening for a toast, a taste, and a handshake…that was the theme for the evening of the NYC Webgrrls Wine Tasting Extravaganza.

NYC Webgrrls Chapter Leader, Nelly Yusupova opened the evening with announcements and a directive, "Get out your business cards and connect with at least 5 people tonight!" And so they did! The group of nearly 100 mixed and mingled, discussing business and more, keeping the room lively all night.

"When I got home, I counted and I had 16 business cards from new people I'd met. The most amazing part is that I didn't even realize I'd spoken with that many people; it was fun."

Freelance writer and social media consultant

The event was held at the For Your Imagination loft space and Co-founder and Chief Creative Officer Alec Pollak welcomed Webgrrls to the space and spoke a little bit about the company. The wines for the evening were amazing...
Wine was provided by Israeli Wine Direct, a company which hand-selects the finest boutique wines from Israel. Their goal is to introduce Americans to small-quantity, high-quality "wines you've never heard of" and to tell the winemakers' stories.

Richard Shaffer, founder of Israeli Wine Direct, couldn't make it on Wednesday, so, Kevin Kennedy, CEO of Webgrrls International, was the sommelier for the evening...he set up the wines in an order so the first wine complemented the next and so on...and kept the wine pouring.

Meishar Merlot 2005 - The first wine on the menu is by a husband and wife team in Israel's central coastal plain and tasted of plum, blackberry, and earth.

Karmei Yosef Cabernet Sauvignon 2005 - The second wine, with hints of blackberries, currants, herbs, and even pencil, is produced in central Israel by winemaking professors and made from grapes from the Judean Hills.

Tzora Giv’At Hachalukim 2006 - The third wine, is a 100% cabernet from the leading kosher boutique producer in Israel of single-vineyard premium wines.

Somek Bik’At Hanadiv 2004   - The forth wine, is a red blend, which is made by a 5th generation vineyard manager living in the same home his family has been in since 1882.

"These are some of the best wines I have ever tasted...who knew Israel was wine country" Dawn Caswell
