Wine, Cheese & Networking

The perfect ambiance, relaxed atmosphere, great wine and a great group of people made for a wine tasting networking evening to remember for NYC Webgrrls. At the Moore Brothers Wine Company, in a charming loft space on 20th and Broadway, we toasted the end of Summer and the beginning of the business season and wished each other great success for the coming year. Our pourer for the evening was none other than David Moore, a delightful and knowledgeable man who told intimate stories about the wineries and family growers for each bottle we tasted. He started me off with a white from Northern France.

As always, many people exchanged business cards and ideas to help one another's businesses and careers. There were recruiters networking to find the right talent, some people were there to share news about job openings, others were new to New York and were looking to build up their professional network. It was nice to change the pace and see everyone with such a relaxed approach to making connections. I made my way over to the circle of people who had come out for the event and clinked glasses while saying hello to many familiar faces and greeting and getting to know the newcomers. Even a good number of men joined us that evening to show support for women in technology.

As the night went on, we picked at apples and grapes and eventually made a dent in the large blocks of brie, gouda, stilton, ossau cheeses. With each new tasting, we made a circle around Europe's map as we sipped wines from Germany, Italy, and back over to France. A few European's had joined us for the event and shared their experiences with food and culture from those regions. Regarding the wine tasting, by the end of the night, there was one clear winner of taste. Everyone overwhelmingly agreed that the bottle that stole the show was the 1989 Vouvray Clos Baudoin Prince Poniatowki from Central France. With a name like that, how could it not stand out? I walked out with a bottle of the Mosel Riesling (tasting #2, for those who were there and kept count).

I've had a wonderful summer at Webgrrls events socializing with people throughout the city that work in technology and the internet. I mean...friends, professional connections, and European wine. What's not to love?
