The March Networking Meeting was another successful event for New York's Webgrrls! The evening was hosted again by AXA Advisors in Midtown Manhattan. Alan Green of AXA expressed to members and other attendees that their company, while helping their clients with investments, insurance, and financial planning, also is involved in helping people make connections.
Special guest speaker this month was Karin Vibe-Rheymer-Stewart. She spoke about time management and gave Webgrrls a few tips. "Our brains aren't light switches," she stressed, recommending setting a schedule to check email and phone messages rather than stopping constantly in the middle of the workday to deal with them. Why? Research shows it takes ten minutes to get your mind back on a project after a distraction. A one-hour task can take up to five hours with interruptions, so limiting this makes you more productive. Karin also shared a few other great ideas for Webgrrls to use in managing their time wisely!
The introductions, the most important part of Webgrrls networking, were the next segment of the meeting. Everyone took a turn to introduce themselves and tell something they need and something they can offer others. Of note were many who expressed not only a need to network but to feel part of the community of Webgrrls.
Informal networking and snacks ended the night. Participants walked away with plenty of new contacts, advice, and, hopefully, leads for new clients or jobs!
