Import website colors into Photoshop in seconds

I have recently discovered Palette Grabber, a really neat Firefox extension for web designers that grabs all the colors used on a website and exports them to “color palette” file that can then be used in a wide range of image editing applications.   This tool makes it really easy to see what color combinations work together and tweak them for your own designs.

Palette Grabber is a free download and works with any version of Firefox.   It supports Photoshop, Flash, PaintShop Pro, GIMP, Adobe Fireworks, and Mac OS X Color Picker palette formats.

Here are instructions on how to download, install, and import the palette color file into Photoshop

1. If you do not have Firefox, install it.
2. Go to the Palette Grabber website and click the green “Add to Firefox” button.  This will install the extension into firefox.  You will need to restart Firefox for the extension to work.
3. Go to the website that you would like to grab the color palette from.
   
   
4. In the Firefox browser, go to Tools -> Export color palette. Selecting this command will extract a color palette for the current page and save it as a color palette file (.aco extension)
5. Open Photoshop
6. Go to the color swatches tab. If you can’t find it, go to the top Menu and click on Window menu.  From the drop down options select “Swatches”.
7. In the top right corner of the Swatches tab, click on the down arrow to get more options (see image below)
   
8. Select “Load Swatches” option.  This will load all of the colors from the palette file into your swatches tab.
