When we think of internet searches, most of us automatically think of Google. Using the power of tagging with keywords, search sites are starting to pop up with different approaches to the typical rows or text results. Here are some sites that are starting to look at searching in new ways.

Quintura

quinturaSearch clouds are becoming more and more prevalent, but Quintura has a new spin on the search cloud. Instead of simply showing the most common search terms, it allows customers to click on keywords and continue drilling in to see more and more related keywords.

As you hone in on keywords on the left of the screen, related search results display on the right. Also, you can hover over keywords before clicking to get a preview of that keywords next level of related words to ensure it will take you closer to your search goal.

In the example below, I’ve honed in by selecting:
business > development > coaching > executive > services

On the right-hand side, I see search results for executive business coaching services.

Kartoo

For example, I’ll start off with the same keyword of “business”. I see related keywords, like economy, investing, and market, but I also see suggested sites like New York Times, business.com, and money.cnn.com. When I hover over any of the suggested sites, I see arrows indicating which keywords appear most frequently on that site.

Viewzi

viewzi logoSearch clouds aren’t the only new approaches to online searching. Viewzi lets you enter a keyword and then choose from multiple ways to view and narrow results.

Once again, I’ll start off with the keyword “business”. I can find video clips that have the keyword business. I can then narrow the results down further by suppressing results with related keywords that were returned in the result set.

Viewzi gives you other dimensions of how to search for your keyword. For instance, you can look at results around shopping or even view album covers related to the word. Here are album covers with the keyword “business”.
