Capture your images and ideas and share them

Taking a screen shot of information is no new task. We are often looking at web pages and want to share what we are looking at with our comments right on the page. Screen capturing and customizing your screen with your comments is a pretty long process and if you are on a PC, you will have to follow this process to capture and share your ideas (see instructions below). However, if you are on a Mac OS X, there is a better way…Skitch.

The Easier Way of capturing and sharing your images (Mac Only)

Skitch is a screen capture and sketching application for OS X. They’ve been in private beta for a while and have recently gone to an open beta, which means that anyone who has a Mac can sign up and start using their application.

It is pretty amazing! You can take a screen shot of ANY application on your screen simply by highlighting the area. Once you’ve grabbed the desired screen, you can then use the built in tools to write notes, highlight and circle text and pictures, save the image and share it. This would be a great tool for design/client & web/client work, or for image collaboration.

If you’d like, you can also use Skitch.com website to store and share your images.

The Long (Standard) way of capturing and sharing your images

1. • Windows System
     Hit the Ctrl + Print Screen keys at the same time. This copies the active window screen and places it in your clipboard.
   • Macintosh System (OS X)
     Hit Command+Shift+3 for a Full-screen screenshot
     Hit Command+Shift+4 to select the screenshot area
     Hit Command+Shift+4 and then spacebar to capture a specific screen objectThe screenshots are automatically saved to the Desktop in PNG format. If you want to save a screenshot in a different format, or to a different location, add the Control key to any of the above combinations, which copies the screenshot to the clipboard instead of saving it to a file.
   • Screenshot Extension for Firefox (both PC and Mac)
     Pearl Crescent Page Saver is an extension for Mozilla Firefox that lets you capture images of web pages. These images can be saved in PNG or JPEG format. Using Page Saver, you can capture an entire page or just the visible portion.
2. Once the image is on your computer clipboard, you can then open any image editor (Adobe PhotoShop, Paint Shop Pro, FireWorks or even Paint) and click Edit – Paste. If you want to circle an image or a piece of text and write a note on the image, you need to use the drawing tools of your image program to do that. Once you are done, save this new image in any format you want and share it with your colleagues and friends.
